PeriFeria is a free public festival organized by City3 every two years in the periphery of Brussels. Together with residents and local associations, designers and researchers, artists and creatives, City3 provides workshops, guided tours, artistic interventions and tailor-made spectacle and animation, based on the available know-how and imagination.
City3 / PeriFeria
City3 is a trans-disciplinary laboratory for socio-spatial reflection, research, experiment and intervention. Founded in Brussels in 2013, City3 brings together architects, urbanists, researchers and artists. Supported by a common structure, City3 organises projects in varying alliances and associations with the ambition of having both an artistic and cultural, as well as a socio-spatial relevance. With the PeriFeria Festival, City3 is advocating new formats and recipes for reinventing the outskirts of the city by creating an ephemeral collective redevelopment together with residents and local associations, designers, researchers, artists and creatives.
In 2013, PeriFeria visited the Woluweveld area on the eastern fringe of Brussels. For the 2015 edition of PeriFeria, the festival took place in the northern fringe, in the border area between Brussels, Vilvoorde and Machelen. In 2017, the western periphery of Brussels was given the orange PeriFeria colours at ten locations between Neerpede and Koningslo. This year it is to the southern fringe, with the focus on the border area between Stalle, Caelevoet, Drogenbos and Ruisbroek.
