WauWtostrade – WAUW
For the PeriFeria Festival the imaginative architects of WAUW will join forces with primary school pupils from Jette, Dilbeek and Zellik. Together, they will build the WauWtostrade, an innovative 20-meter-long model of the Brussels ring road, including an adaptive reuse of the road verge and an imaginative redesign of the basic infrastructures.
The model is made in the primary schools ‘t Keperken, Vijverbeek and XXX in the first half of September. During the mobility week from 17 till 24 September, you can admire this creation in the corridors of CC Westrand. From 1 till 10 October the model will be exhibited in CC Strombeek. If you want to design your own part of ring road, you are welcome do so at the Rotonde aan de Heizel on Sunday afternoon 10 September.
WAUW, which stands for Workshops d ‘Architecture & Urbanism / Architecture & Urbanism Workshops, is the creative vehicle with which Stephanie Vander Goten and Lotte Mattelaer organize all kinds of design and construction workshops. Stephanie and Lotte are architects, but within WAUW they are design-guides. They guide groups to conceptualize solutions for an issue or to respond to lingering opportunities within a thematic framework. They make use of a methodology specific to architectural practice: the analysis. The analysis of a situation, a vision, a material, etc. enables them to make a thought out design that answers the prior demands. The link with architecture is always clearly present through their methods, references, and the result.
